About this sample

This deep Reese bass one-shot features three sawtooth oscillators at F#1 (~46.25 Hz) with detuning of ±15 cents to create rich phase beating and stereo width by panning detuned saws left and right. A clean sine wave at the fundamental frequency is layered in the center to reinforce the low end and prevent it from disappearing due to phase cancellation. The sound is shaped by a 4-pole Butterworth low-pass filter at 450 Hz that removes harsh high frequencies, followed by a warm tanh saturation to glue the elements together. An ADSR envelope with a fast 5 ms attack and a long 200 ms release gives it a smooth, natural decay over two seconds.

This bass fits well in deep house, drum and bass, and other electronic genres at moderate tempos where a rich low-end foundation is needed. It can be layered with sub-bass or mid-bass elements for added thickness, though care should be taken to avoid low-frequency muddiness due to its wide stereo image. Additional compression or EQ can help it sit firmly in the mix without overpowering other elements.
