lo fi snare

About this sample

This snare combines a sine wave thump sweeping quickly from 180Hz down to 130Hz with a band-passed white noise layer focused between 1kHz and 5kHz, simulating snare wires. Both elements have exponential decays, with the tonal body fading faster. The sound is processed with sample rate reduction to about 11kHz, 10-bit bitcrushing for grit, and tanh saturation adding warmth. A steep 4.5kHz low-pass filter removes high-end fizz, giving a dusty, lo-fi character, and a short fade-in and fade-out smooth the attack and release.

It fits well in lo-fi, chillhop, and vintage-inspired beats around moderate tempos where a warm, textured snare is desired. Layering with cleaner snares or subtle reverb can add depth, but watch for muddiness in busy mixes due to the midrange noise presence. This snare works best when positioned upfront with careful EQ to maintain clarity.
